THE NEED FOR A POPULATION BASED APPROACH
The Faculty of Public Health launched a Special Interest Group on Population Ageing in June 2026, starting with a presentation by the Chief Medical Officer. This is of vital importance for two reasons. Firstly there is a need to shift the whole population as well as identifying and supporting people at high risk - the Left Shift or Geoffrey Rose approach. The second is the need to tackle the causal, social determinants of healthy ageing, notably ageism and deprivation

The Faculty of Publuc Health now has a special interst group on healthy ageing
