WELCOME TO THE LLB COMMUNITY
One of the key themes emerging from research is a the realisation of the importance, and potential , of communities both local and digital and the Live Longer Better system is designedto support communities and inroduce people to communities as well as providing optimal clinical care. Here is the type of letter that is being piloted to send to a person on their birthday, not just informing them about tests for which they are eligible but also creating the sense of community
Live Longer Better is a new NHS system to enable people not just to live longer but also to live better for longer and minimise the time dependent on others for even the most basic tasks like making a cup of tea for a friend or getting to the toilet in time. We now know this is possible because the scientific evidence is now clear that
- most of the problems that affect us before the late nineties are not caused by the normal, untreatable process of ageing but by factors that can be influenced and that
- there is strong research evidence that these factors - loss of fitness, disease and social pressures – can be influenced by steps that you and people in your family and community can take and it is never too late to take action
The key to this is ensuring that you have access to the best current knowledge about what is happening to you as you live longerThe invitation to join the LLB Community is sent on your birthday because a birthday, especially a big bang birthday ending in a 0, is always a day fro reflection, for looking backwards and thinking a little bit about the future. For too many people the look ahead is depressing because they assume it is downhill all the way and that there is nothing they can do about it but this is wrong. The LLB Community offers you knowledge about
- what is happening as you live longer
- what can be done to prevent or delay or minimise the problems that have always been assumed to be inevitable due to "old age'
- what is available to support you both locally and digitally
It is never too late and we invite you to think of the year ahead and what you can do to
- regain lost fitness and get even fitter, physically and mentally
- feel better and more positive
- reduce your risk of serious diseases like dementia and stroke, and having a fall
- work with the NHS to adapt and fight back if disease does strike
- play an even greater part in helping your community, of all ages, because we now know that this is one of the best things you can do for your health and wellbeing
The NHS Live Longer Better programme will also keep in touch when you get a prescription through our new technology called W:ISH.
So we wish you a Happy Birthday and good year ahead
Of course many people over 60 are not online yet although the numbers are decreasing so action is being taken to ensure that people who are not on line get. the suppport and confidence they need to do so
