ukactive and Active Partnerships Network

The ukactive/Sport England project with 6 ICBs
Objective
Bringing the NHS and the Activity Industry together for Living Longer Better and reducing sickness absence.

Improving the management of musculoskeletal problems by developing guidelines and pathways for the management of musculoskeletal disorders, including the financial consequences of referring people to gyms and fitness centres. This is a model for other types of referral.
Action
ukactive, the trade body of the wellbeing and fitness industry is working with Sport England, In particular the Active Partnerships , of which there are 42, and with the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine.

They have develop a set of ‘MSK Hubs’ and taken account of medical concerns
about ‘referral’ of people to a facility that is not part of the NHS.
They are working with 6 ICBs:
  • West Yorkshire
  • South Yorkshire
  • Cambridge and Peterborough
  • Lincolnshire
  • Greater Manchester
  • South East London

The chair of ukactive is currently Mike Farrer who was a very experienced and
highly regarded NHS Leader and manager.
